beaver encore
June 22nd, 2008 by Marlea
Sitting on a river rock watching the approaching dusk I noticed a snout parting the water. Otter again I thought, until the animal came ashore, way too big for otter, this was a big fat beaver. I watched him cross the river several times, get out and investigate some weeds, give a snort and slide back into the water and swim around a corner. I got up and followed him back to his dam and returned to my sunset seat thinking the show was over. Five minutes later he cruised by again, then another, then another and another until four beavers were parading in front of me. They paid me no mind. I watched with fascination their very industrious activity. I’m not sure what they were doing, feeding maybe, but they went about it with such one-pointed singlemindness that I was very impressed. The unflappable beaver always on a steady course like Mister Ed, whom I also greatly admired.
